this kinda reminds me of the WoW incident where a player died in real life and her guild decided to hold of cermony for her in-game. Long story short the opposing faction got a group together and WIPED out the entire funeral service and posted the video online. That was imo despicable but i guess in this case it was for fun/irony as ppl were organising a "Save the Mursaat" rally got WIPED out by the Mursaat.

Yeah, every single problem every person has with Guild Wars is ANet's/NCSoft's fault. I hate that. [/sarcasm]

Here's a little technical lesson for all of you griping about Anet fixing lag and rubberbanding. When you're in a city/town, somewhere on your screen - probably an upper corner, on the loading screen, you'll find a number that looks like xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (where the "x" is a number from 1-9). That's called an IP address, and it's the server you're connecting to. Quick, now, write that number down. Now, go back to your Windows desktop, go to the Start menu, and select the Run option. Type in "cmd" (minus the quotes) and press Enter. Now, type in the window that appeared: tracert xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (again, where the xxx.etc is the number you just wrote down.)

This little function will tell you exactly how long, and what path your system is taking to connect to the GW server. Maybe - just maybe - you'll find that the problem ISN'T at the server end, but somewhere along the path to the server. And maybe - perish the thought - the problem is actually your network! Whoa.

Your individual mileage may vary, and results will vary day-to-day, and hour-to-hour, even, as the network structure of the net experiences its own troubles. Your individual situation may be a longer path to a GW server than someone else's. You may have a wireless network, which may be picking up interference. There are lots of reasons, and not all of them are ANet's/NCSoft's fault.

You may find it's your ISP having problems, at which point, you have someone you CAN gripe at and perhaps affect the outcome. But let me tell all of those who moan about anything: I've been on the other side of the phone when you call. I understand your frustration. And I absolutely will not kill myself going out of my way to help you when you start slinging "b----" and "c---" at me, as though I'm the reason your whole world is hell. Consider that the next time you call for help.

Oh, whoa.

Actually when I do have problems with GW it has always been at their end of the network that the problems occurs, not mine, not my ISP's.

So, please don't give that bullshit story.

When my guildies told me that people were gettin killed over there. I actually took my warrior to the nearest outpost I had to the place (i never work on proph, only factions and nightfall. I feel proph to be boring), and solo ran over there as fast as I could. lol. It was the biggest waste of time ever! but it was SOOO fun! lol.

Read right past the "maybe" did you?

Read right past the "your mileage may vary" as well?

Next time you call bullshit, please back it up with something the whole community will benefit from. I specifically stated that "individual cases may vary." Yours is one of them. Your individual case does not negate the whole post for the whole community.

two different computers on two different architectures.
both said by support there was nothing wrong with either of them.

support told me to do some internet tests. to download a program called ping plotter. basically what it does is tests your connection to the ip you punch in and tells you if there are any errors or packet loss.

ran it for 3-4 hours each, on both computers, and ping stayed at 73 and under.

thus PROVING, its not either of computers, nor my connection.

wanna see the ping plotter? ill more then happily upload it, minus my ip adress of course.

any other suggestions? im open to them all.

btw.

this isnt isolated. it seems to be east coast usa related.

i have a list of over 60 different people with different or simalar isp's, all with the same problem.


also.

if your having rubber banding issues, i HIGHLY encourage people on east coast usa to download the trial of ping plotter, punch in the ip of the server your connected to, and see if you have any errors.

if you have no errors and are tired of rubber banding, take it up with support.
the more people we get behind this. the more probability it will get fixed.

Thanks also for contributing to solving (or at least, assisting in solving) people's troubles.

Sounds like pingplotter is sort of a beefed-up tracert... at least, I hope it is.

thats exactly what it is.

basically what i think the problem is, is some sort of client/server synchronization error.

you will be one place and the server will think your in another, and when the two catch up, you rubber band.

now packet loss, is about the only thing i can think of that would cause this, but numerous ping plotters by myself while playing show 0 errors/packets lost.

this happens on two different computer types, with different operating systems.

so in short, im lost. and i actually think support is aswell.

one pc is amd
other is intel.

operating systems tried.
winxp prof.
winxp media center
windows 2000
and even ubuntu linux with wine emulator.

cable internet connected straight to modem. so no routers.

Yeah, but they chose to have the service in a PvP area (because it was her favorite place, I think). So they really set themselves up for it.

Hmm. Instead of packet loss, is there any sign of packet corrpution? (Would pingplotter pick up on this if there were?) I don't know the answer, that's for sure. I know, in my case, on the East Coast of the US, I run into some problems mid-afternoon (2-4PM Eastern) but those seem to be local network related; happens in GW, as well as in BF2. Occasional lag/r-banding, but those instances are rare - once a week, if I were to average it out. I guess location really does matter more in some cases. I don't disagree that there are issues, trust me. I know there are; any enterprise this big is bound to have 'em. What worries me (if worries is a good term) is the preponderance of people who very quickly jump up and scream, "It's all XXXXX's fault" without any due diligence on their part to make sure that's accurate. Every tool we use/find along the way may - hopefully - weed out some of those folks who never thought to check their cable connections before griping.
